Wooden Bowl Carving

Posted by tcallanan

Try your hand at carving a wooden bowl from a humble chunk of wood. In this 4 week-long series, the talented artisan Steve Emma will guide the transformation through hands-on instruction and demonstration. Using hand tools for chiseling, carving, and sanding, your piece will immerge as a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of functional art! Perfect as a reward for your labors or a lovingly created gift for someone special.

Steve has been teaching the art of carving wood into bowls and spoons for over 40 years at local venues and high schools.

Materials provided: Wood from one of Blithewold’s downed trees and a dust mask. Please bring a heavy towel or blanket to hold the wood while carving, safety glasses, work gloves, wood chisels (a straight 1-inch or larger, a curved gouge 1-inch or larger), and a slightly curved scoop.

Participants are also welcome to bring a favorite piece of wood, log, or driftwood. Please send a photo to Steve to ensure its suitability.

Registration is required. Each class is limited to 8 people.
