Advanced Jazz with Kaja Irwin, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks

DJD is dedicated to showing respect for the Africanist roots and aesthetics of jazz dance and prioritizes the foundational elements that were developed in and by Black American communities. Our jazz classes provide students with a physical history of the form with exploration in vernacular styles and accompanying Diasporic influences alongside codified forms. Students will explore some of the core styles of jazz dance, swing, funk, and Latin styles and will be encouraged to embody personal expression, musicality, and rhythm.
