Finding time to focus on how words transcend to become an art form is anything but easy. Schedules runaway with themselves, and days grow thick with errands, meetings and the bane of writers everywhere, responsibilities. Down in Middletown, however, a small enclave of poets are making time for what truly matters: their craft.
Every second Saturday of the month, starting at 3pm, three members of Ocean State Poets (Carol Anderheggen, Heather Sullivan and Dave Dragone) welcome the public to meet at the Middletown Library to “discuss, write, craft and read your poems.” The gathering begins with an introduction and, to get the creative juices flowing, brief readings by the Ocean State Poets, followed by a writing workshop and discussion. A concluding open mic provides brave souls with an opportunity to let loose their poetic projects.
And don’t worry, participants do not have to don the title of “poet” in order to attend. Even those who only want to listen to melodic masterpieces are encouraged to make time for this outstanding showcase of poetics. Free. Every second Saturday. 3pm. 700 West Main Rd, Middletown. 401-846-1573.
