Join the Coggeshall staff as we prepare a Thanksgiving meal over the hearth in our historic farmhouse. The late 18th century was before the official start of Thanksgiving as a national holiday, but the day was still celebrated with food and prayer in New England. Watch our costumed historians make chicken on a string, bake a pie in the hot coals, mash turnips and churn butter. In the woodshop we will also demonstrate carving wooden spoons. Explore the garden to see the last of the fall harvest. Walk the nature trail and look for signs of wild turkey, see musket demonstrations and try your aim with rubber band targets.
Please note: This is not a Thanksgiving meal for visitors to eat. Food prepared in the historic Farmhouse Kitchen does not meet modern health and food preparation codes for public consumption.
