The Art of Comfort Food
Character’s Café & Theatre 82, a cozy restaurant and performance space, is an exciting extension from partnering neighbor Artists’ Exchange. With an artistic touch and a commitment to serve wholesome comfort food, the restaurant has been delighting guests with its unique concept since opening in early 2015.

Art is all around you at the Character’s Café. The murals on the wall, which were designed by a RISD grad and handpainted by Artists’ Exchange artists, set the mood for a fun family-friendly experience. Tables and chairs, found and repurposed, have also been handpainted. Even the colorful plates and mugs are handmade by ceramic artists. But it’s the food that really takes the stage here, with breakfast and lunch classics getting an artsy makeover using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Homemade corned beef hash, stacks of mouth-watering pancakes, egg specialties, made-from-scratch soups, angus beef burgers and salad entrees are just a sampling of what you can find on their menu. Seasonal specials let farm-picked produce and fresh seafood take leading roles and add to the already brimming menu selections. Craft beer, creative cocktails, a kids menu and homemade desserts round out the delicious offerings.

Impacting the Community

Dining at Character’s Café has another great benefit: supporting the community. The restaurant, along with Artists’ Exchange, is a non-profit business owned and operated by Gateways to Change, an organization that enhances the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. The café employs many of these individuals, offering them critical real life work experience and also providing an inclusive atmosphere where everyone is always welcome.

Family Entertainment: Theatre 82 hosts weekly theatrical performances, comedy acts, children’s variety shows, puppet shows and more.

Jazz Sundays: Enjoy the sounds of the Tri-Forte Trio every Sunday with your freshly made breakfast from 10am-1pm.
