The Spirit of Christmas Past: Four Centuries of Christmas in New England

Kenneth C. Turino of Historic New England presents an illustrated lecture tracing the development of the celebration of Christmas from the time it was outlawed in 17th- century New England through the beginning of the present century. Among the topics discussed are how the Christmas tree became popular, halls were decked, Santa Claus came to town and traditions specific to Blithewold, such as the 18-foot Christmas tree.

Refreshments will be served after the talk.
