The Cutting Edge of Accessorizing

Posted

“Risk” “balance,” “endurance,” “perseverance” and “practice,” are some of the motivational words printed on the latest bracelet and necklace collection by Alexys Ryan, the first in-house brand from East Providence jewelry manufacturer LDC – a “one-stop shop” for concept, design and production. The line was created by Rhode Island natives Jennifer Brousseau and Alexys Garrepy, both URI graduates. Jennifer began her career in apparel manufacturing but after local business started to decline, she decided to jump into the jewelry business. Her sister-in-law Alexys Garrepy was already in the industry and had decided to move back to Rhode Island from New York City to raise her two small children; the two created Alexys Ryan together. “What started out as a business decision has turned into something we’re truly connected with,” Jennifer says. “It inspires us and we inspire it.”

Company president Ed DeCristofaro is a toolmaker by trade and made many of the tools used at LDC, including trim, pierce and blank tools. Along with older equipment, the company uses 3D printing to create plastic models that are then cast in metal for production. “Our industry is very fast-paced,” Alexys says, “and we have all of the resources here to keep up with it.”
