Shakespeare Heads Outdoors for Three East Bay Performances

Rhode Island Shakespeare Company presents The Bard at two vineyards and an artist community

Posted

The Rhode Island Shakespeare Company (RISC) is a local theatre group that performs the works of Shakespeare in their intended setting, outdoors, throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts every summer. For nine years, RISC has been presenting The Bard al fresco. This summer, they will be performing at three outdoor venutes, two of which are actually vineyards, because what's a better combination than Shakespearean comedy and wine? Beginning this Friday, July 12, the RISC will be performing their rendition of The Merry Wives of Windsor throughout the East Bay and South Coast. On July 12 and 13, they'll be at RunningBrook Winery in Dartmouth; July 19 and 20 at Newport Vineyards; and August 2 and 3 at Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton.

The story follows Falstaff, who arrives in Windsor broke and comes up with a seemingly simple plan to gain wealth. He attempts to charm two rich wives with identical love letters, but when they learn what he is up to, hilarious consequences ensue. The shows will be weather permitting, and calling ahead to reserve a seat is recommended. Each venue also has its own food and alcohol policy, so be sure to ask about that as well. This is a fun and hillarious show in a series of unique settings. For more information or to reserve a seat, call the venue nearest you. Newport Vineyards: 401-848-5161. Running Brook Vineyards: 508-985-1998 . Sandywoods Farm: 401-241-7349.
