Get Outside and Go the Extra Mile

Shake off those winter blues with a couple of local road races

Posted

You’ve been stuck inside for too long and it’s about time to shake off the winter blues. Here are a couple of chances to get out and stretch those stiff legs. Run, walk, bring your family and your dog and join in the festivities while contributing to some great causes this month.

Kicking off April 1 at 7:30pm is the Newport Night Run. Proceeds will go to benefit the Newport Public Education Foundation. Their mission is to enhance the educational opportunities and build community support for the public school children of Newport. Starting at Rogers High School, the race boasts a new spring date, which means “less snow, less layers” after last year’s zero degree February run.

In Barrington on April 2 the Nayatt School is hosting its 2016 5k. It’s a day of fun for all ages focused on family and health. Family one-mile and 50-yard dash runs begin at 9am with the big 5k starting at 10am. Funds raised will go to support children’s programming at the school.
