Native Rhode Islanders, Brown students, and visitors alike know the Baja’s locations in Providence and North providence for their generous portions, variety of toppings (no extra charge for guac, phew!), and their seemingly endless menu. Now, the Tex-Mex chain has expanded to another location: Baja’s Grill in Rumford. The new addition to the franchise brings all of its familiar trademarks with some more authentic Mexican dishes and drinks like enchiladas, horchata, and tamarindo.
Owner David Boutros says that the inspiration for the name of Baja’s Grill was an idea that both he and his head chef came up with to fit the new demographic they serve. The location on Newport Avenue is one that does not cater to rambunctious college students at a late hour craving decadent food. Instead, the surrounding community has a variance of people who are more health-conscious and want quality grilled meats and vegetables. This new restaurant will deliver just that.
David also boasts some exciting new additions to the space that set it apart from its sister eateries in the franchise. Baja’s Grill will eventually have a beer and wine license, and the owner plans to put in a Mexican-style patio adorned with waterfalls to create a south-of-the-border vibe.
