One of the best things about the East Bay Bike Path is the opportunity to take detours into the towns it spans and soak up the arts and culture. Here are just a few events near the path.

Bristol’s 4th of July Celebration

America’s oldest 4th of July celebration includes much more than just the iconic parade; Bristol has events for several weeks leading up to the 4th. Some major events include the Miss Fourth Pageant (May 25), Flag Day (June 14), the Vintage Baseball Game (June 15), the Rockwell Amusements Carnival (June 27-July 4), The fireworks display (July 3) and the Concert Series (June 21-July 3). All events lead up to the big day and the highly anticipated 228th Annual 4th of July Parade at 10:30am. Bristol Town Common, 151 State St., Bristol.

Audubon Society Free Family Fun Day

The Audubon Society’s Environmental Education Center is free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Guests can participate in crafts, nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes and more. Beginning June 1 from 9am-5pm. 1401 Hope St., Bristol. 401-245-7500. 

Ride with K-Rob Family Fun Festival

BMX pro and X-Games gold medalist Kevin Robinson leads a four-mile ride from Pierce Field to the Crescent Park Carousel. There, riders can join the Family Fun Festival, an all-day affair with music, vendors and demonstrations. It’s $10 to join the ride (which gets you a t-shirt) and the festival is free. June 8 from 10am-6pm. Begin at Pierce Field, 201 Mercer St., East Providence. End at Crescent Park, 700 Bullocks Point Ave., East Providence. 

Providence 4th of July Celebration

The city celebrates Independence Day every year at India Point Park, including fireworks and a performance by the Rhode Island Philharmonic. This year’s lineup has yet to be announced, but check the City of Providence website as the date draws closer. July 4. India St., Providence.

Family Fun Fridays at Blithewold

This weekly event includes live music, face painting and unique craft projects. Fridays beginning July 5 from 11am-1pm. Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, 101 Ferry Rd., Bristol. 401-253-2707. 

33rd Annual Heritage Days Festival

This weekend long food and music festival in East Providence reflects many unique cultures. There will be live music, ethnic foods and crafts, a midway and classic cars. July 19-21. Pierce Memorial Field & Stadium, 201 Mercer St., East Providence. 401-435-711.

Warren Quahog Festival

This two-day festival features seafood, live music, over 75 craft booths and children’s activities such as a moonwalk and pony rides. It runs side by side with the Warren Art Festival, featuring 40 of New England’s top artists. July 20 from 10am-8pm, July 21 from 10am-6pm. Burr’s Hill Park, South Water St., Warren. 401-247-0232.

Classic Car Show

Admire vintage cars while taking in the shoreline of Bristol Town Beach. August 4 at 11am. Bristol Town Beach, 50 Asylum Rd., Bristol.

Rhode Island Seafood Festival

Sample some of the state’s best seafood at this third annual (and free) event. There will also be local food distributors, breweries, wineries, artists and live music. September 7-8 from 11am-7pm. India Point Park, India St., Providence.  

Yoga Classes in the Garden

Practice yoga in the peaceful setting that is Linden Place’s gardens. This Monday class is suitable for all skill levels. Mondays beginning June 3 from 4:30pm-5:45pm. Linden Place Gardens, 500 Hope St., Bristol. 401-253-0390.
