Culture yourself this weekend because the Bay area is full of theater, dance and music events that you won’t want to miss.

On Friday and Saturday, catch the outdoor Shakespeare at Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton. The Rhode Island Shakespeare Company is performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 7pm on both nights. Enjoy one of the Bard’s most famous romantic comedies on the beautiful grounds of the Sandywoods Farm. It’s bring your own food and drinks, so it’s a casual picnic setting – just don’t leave the bug spray at home.

Combine the beautiful views of Newport, the warmth of summer, original blues and folk music with a country twist and what do you get? The Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series at the Newport Yachting Center. This weekend, the series welcomes the unique sound of the Cowboy Junkies, along with the instantly catchy melodies of Pousette-Dart Band. This waterfront concert is situated in downtown Newport with an open-air courtyard featuring full bars and concessions, as well as covered seating that offers intimate views of the show from throughout the venue.

Also on Friday and Saturday, Roger Williams University is hosting two nights of back-to-back performances in “A Weekend of Dance.” Solos and group dances will leave you astounded as the talented performers grace the stage each night. Tickets are $10, and will be sold at the entrance of the Roger Williams University Performing Arts Center. Space is limited, so arrive early for your seats.

Saturday and Sunday boast the Newport Jazz Festival in Fort Adams State Park. It's two full days of live music on three huge stages, plus food carts and vendors to keep you from starving. Jazz and music lovers, don’t even think about missing this once-a-year event. New Orleans legend Dr. John headlines a Friday night preview as well.

For this weekend only, the Bristol Theater Company is performing Children of Eden, a musical based on the Book of Genesis. This retelling of a famous story is seen through the view of no specific religion and touches on the themes of love, greed, anger and family. Starting on Friday, there are four chances to see it at the Mount Hope High School Auditorium.
