“I’ve always had a love for the arts and fashion design,” Stephanie Kolanko explains. “I am constantly learning new techniques and methods, and drawing inspiration from everywhere.” As a recent graduate from the Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design department at the University of Rhode Island, Stephanie truly epitomizes StyleWeek’s mission to support emerging talent. In college, Stephanie says, she took any and every creative class she could find, like photography, floral design and garment construction. “Anything that involved a creativemind was intriguing,” she explains. As a student, she participated in the Fashion Merchandising Society’s Eco-Chic Fashion Show and Spring Splash, and won Audience Favorite for her line Professional Flirt. So what can we expect from this budding designer? “My Spring/Summer 2013 line is inspired by the effortlessly chic summer lifestyle we all seek. She’s a girl that changes her mind about what to wear as much as the sun sets.” Look for elements of breezy bohemian, soft pastels and lace paired with rock and roll and eclectic indie influences. “I think my personality comes through in my clothing,” Stephanie says. “It portrays a confident girl who can follow trends, but who adds her own personal flair to whatever look she feels like rocking that day.” Stephanie is available for custom orders. Stephanie Kolanko will be presenting at 8pm on Monday, August 27 at the Providence Biltmore. Contact Stephanie at stephaniekolankodesigns@gmail.com.
