Rising from the Ashes

As you’ve probably heard by now, The Old Grist Mill Tavern in Seekonk suffered an intense fire in June, resulting in the restaurant’s closure. Many loved it not only for its food but also as a special place to feed the ducks after dinner, or to enjoy a cordial by the fireplace. The historic relic had stood since 1745, welcoming countless locals and visitors with its traditional New England cuisine and beautifully worn wooden façade.

Rather than accept defeat, however, owners Greg and Sue Esmay are looking toward a brighter future. “We have every intention of bringing back the Grist Mill to what it was,” says Greg. “Same old wood, same old barn, it’s just going to take time.” Until then, the Esmays are allowing all gift certificates to be redeemed at their sister restaurant, The Wharf Tavern in Warren. “The Wharf” features seafaring food such as Fried Calamari (tossed in cherry peppers, hot peppers and garlic butter), Pan-seared Salmon (served with a dijon cream sauce) and Lobster Scampi (sautéed with garlic and tomatoes).
