Imago Foundation for the Arts (IFA) will feature artwork by IFA artist Mary Dondero and guest artists Tracey J. Maroni and Mary Vecchio as part of a group exhibit July 18 through August 25 at IMAGO Gallery, 36 Market Street, Warren. The public is invited to a free reception on Friday, July 19, from 6–8 pm.
Mary Dondero will present recent large-scale drawings that “reflect her concerns with our experiences of climate change.” The drawings are expressive, imbued with a rich array of marks and colors. Dondero is an interdisciplinary artist and is one of the founding members of Imago Foundation for the Arts. She has served as its president and past-president; currently she facilitates the organization’s Exhibition Committee and serves on its Development Committee. Dondero was instrumental in developing the IMAGO/John Udvardy Scholarship Fund that annually awards monies to a Mt. Hope graduating senior pursuing a university degree in the visual arts.
Tracey J. Maroni draws inspiration from nature. Her artwork is an “investigation and exploration” of the “patterns and cycles” of the natural world and “how [it] sustains us.” Maroni’s preferred medium is painting because of its “intriguing richness and fluidity,” and that the works can be “shaped and changed instantaneously.” Maroni earned a BFA in Painting and a minor in Art History from the University of Massachusetts Amherst; she studied with the painter John Grillo, a student of Hans Hoffman. Her work has been featured in juried exhibits and invitationals throughout New England, including the prestigious “8 Visions” exhibit at the Attleboro Arts Museum.
Mary Vecchio relishes employing re-purposed salvaged materials when assembling her sculptures. She finds that synchronizing industrial hardware with modern materials is “very exciting” and taught her “to persevere through difficult challenges.” Completing a composition offers Vecchio a “sense of controlling [her] own chaotic environ” and to cope more successfully with the “tumultuousness of our world.” Hailing from northwestern Pennsylvania, Vecchio was raised in a household framed by religion and work. Growing up she was obsessed with painting and turned to sculpture when she realized it was her true calling. More than 30 of her drawings are part of the John Merriam Collection, housed at the Boston Public Library. Vecchio’s works have been exhibited in group shows and artists’ organizations.
Other IMAGO artists who will participate in the exhibit include Eileen Siobhan Collins, Carl Keitner, Pascale Lord, Yolanda Mazzoni, Rina Naik, Mercedes Nuñez, Anne Marie Rossi, Howard Rotblat-Walker, Lenny Rumpler, Michael Somers and Howard Windham. IMAGO welcomes its new artist members: Damian Bellotti, Harley Silva, Amy Sutherland and Juji Watrous.
