Get Ready for the Holidays with Buy Local RI

The comprehensive source for restaurants, shops, outings, and more makes the season merry and bright

With the holidays just around the corner, shopping season is well underway. While it can be tempting to hit the big box stores for bargains, the thrill of markdowns is tempered by the lack of truly meaningful gifts you’ll find wandering the aisles. For thoughtful purchases that not only please your loved ones but also support the small businesses that make Rhode Island so special, Buy Local RI is here to help.

“Buy Local RI is a year-round initiative, encouraging Rhode Islanders to support small businesses right here in the Ocean State,” explains Christine Phillips, senior director of community & public affairs at the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. Scroll through their comprehensive directory of both well-known and under-the-radar restaurants, shops, arts organizations, family fun attractions and more for ways to make the most of the holiday season, whether gifting heartfelt items or unforgettable experiences.

“The holiday season is the perfect time to frequent the local businesses that make Rhode Island so unique and special,” Phillips elaborates. "BuyLocalRI.org will help you tackle your holiday gift list, plan some festive fun and get prepped for holiday hosting. The website features details about holiday events and markets, cool shops, amazing restaurants and other fun things to do in every corner of the state.” Presented by GoProvidence and sponsored by BankNewport, Dave's Fresh Marketplace, and the Rhode Island Foundation, Buy Local RI is giving away $150 gift cards for Dave's Fresh Marketplace – with 10 locations throughout the state – to two lucky winners who enter online. One will be selected in November and the second one in December.

All the cozy winter outings, holiday dinners on the town, and unique shopping you could want can be found on Buy Local RI’s easy-to-navigate site, so start planning the perfect Rhody season now. Says Phillips, “Keep it local this holiday season by supporting Rhode Island's small businesses!” Visit BuyLocalRI.org to get started.
