The South County Museum is a summer-only attraction that features a living history farm, maritime gallery, print shop, blacksmith shop and more. 115 Strathmore St., Narragansett. 401-783-5400.

The Tomaquag Museum is dedicated to preserving Rhode Island’s Native American heritage through activities, demonstrations and festivals. 390A Summit Rd., Exeter. 401-491-9063. 

The Quonset Air Museum, in a World War II airplane hangar, has a collection ofalmost 30 rescued and preserved historic planes. 488 Eccleston Ave., North Kingstown. 401-294-9540. 

The Gilbert Stuart Museum is a tribute to the famed portraitist (who painted the rendition of George Washington on the dollar bill) and also a time capsule of colonial Rhode Island. 815 Gilbert Stuart Rd., Saunderstown (North Kingstown). 401-294-3001. 

Smith’s Castle is a colonial home dating back 400 years, and offers costumed reenactors to give you a tour through all of them. 55 Richard Smith Dr., North Kingstown. 401-294-3521.

Kid-friendly Fun
Get your hands wet at Biomes, South County’s only aquarium, where you can pet a shark and an octopus. 6640 Post Rd., North Kingstown. 401-885-4690. 

Shadow Pines Alpaca Farm is a 10-acre farm where you can not only meet the animals, but purchase products made from their wool. 181 Purgatory Rd., Exeter. 401- 295-7859

Who says ice skating is only for the cold weather? Boss Ice Arena at the University of Rhode Island offers lessons year-round. 1 Keaney Rd., Kingston. 401-874-5480. 

Adventureland is pure fun: think mini-golf, go karts, batting cages, a carousel, video games and ice cream when you need a minute to cool off. 112 Point Judith Rd., Narragansett. 401-789-0030.

Arts
Theatre by the Sea stages big musical productions all summer long. 364 Cards Pond Rd., Matunuck. 401-789-3030.  

Hera Gallery hosts engaging and provocative art shows complemented by lectures, talks and film screenings. 10 High St., South Kingstown. 401-789-1488

Westerly’s Granite Theatre is housed in a beautifully preserved historic building. 1 Granite St., Westerly. 401-596-2341.

The Chorus of Westerly, a community-based chorale, performs Summer Pops in Wilcox Park throughout the season. 119 High St., Westerly. 401-596-8663.

The Jamestown Arts Center is part gallery, part performance space, and part education center, offering drop-in art classes for kids, teens and adults. 18 Valley St., Jamestown. 401-662-3839.

Cultural
The Fayerweather House is home to a craft guild that hosts weekly talks by a local artist, followed by a hands-on craft demonstration. 1859 Mooresfield Rd., Kingston. 401-789-9072.

Tour Rhode Island’s only whiskey distillery, Sons of Liberty, and taste their Uprising American Whiskey, as well as seasonally infused vodkas. 1425 Kingstown Rd, South Kingstown. 401-284-4006. 

Kenyon’s Grist Mill in Usquepaugh still grinds the cornmeal necessary to make Rhode Island’s classic Johnnycakes using centuries-old millstones. It also hosts tours and events. 21 Glen Rock Rd., Usquepaugh, 401-783-4054.

Sip on Weekapaug White, Shelter Harbor Chardonnay, Misquamicut Merlot and other locally-inspired varietals at Langworthy Farm Winery, South County’s only vineyard. 308 Shore Rd., Westerly. 401-322-7791.

Outdoor
Wilcox Park is a beautifully manicured oasis in the middle of downtown Westerly, and home to the Colonial Theatre’s annual Shakespeare in the Park, which this year will be staging The Taming of the Shrew (dates TDB). 44 Broad St., Westerly. 401-596-2877.

Casey Farm is a working farm that dates back to 1750. Heirloom vegetables, a barnyard full of animals, a weekend farmer’s market and daily tours make it worth the stop. 2325 Boston Neck Rd., Saunderstown. 401-295-1030. 

Goddard Park, on the Warwick-East Greenwich line, has a beach, horseback riding, Saturday farmer’s market and expansive open spaces and harbor views. 1095 Ives Rd., East Greenwich. 401-884-2010.

Beaver River Golf Club is a par 70, 6006-yard course in historic West Kingston (South Kingstown). The clubhouse contains a pro shop and full-service bar and grill with a wraparound deck overlooking the 18th hole. 343 Kingstown Rd., West Kingston. 401-539-2100. 

The Fantastic Umbrella Factory is an outdoor shopping area that defies description: it’s a collection of shops, a café, a petting zoo and a beloved local landmark for almost half a century. 4820 Old Post Rd, Charlestown. 401-364-6616.
