For local foodies, Providence Restaurant Weeks is practically a holiday – and we’re lucky enough to get to celebrate twice a year. Returning July 7-20, this culinary extravaganza presented by GoProvidence, and sponsored by local RI startup Restaurent, invites diners to visit eateries that may not ordinarily be among their go-to’s and find out what they’re missing. Special lunch, dinner, and breakfast deals entice even the trepidatious eater out of their comfort zone to experience what participating restaurants have to offer.
Now in its 19th year, the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (PWCVB) biannual series has garnered quite a following of civilians, as well as popularity among the business owners. “The Greater Providence area is nationally known for the quality of its restaurants,” says PWCVB president and CEO Kristen Adamo. “Providence Restaurant Weeks is designed to showcase our incredible culinary scene in all its flavorful glory.”
Since its conception, the event has expanded its reach beyond the city proper to also include spots in Warwick, Cranston, and other nearby towns, all getting creative to devise special menus that best highlight their culinary style. This may include pricing deals, prix fixe menus, signature cocktails, family-sized entrees, specialty products, and more.
For everyone involved, Providence Restaurant Weeks is a win-win. “It’s a great way for locals and visitors alike to dive in and experience new restaurants or visit their favorites,” says Adamo. “It also serves as a revenue generator for the culinary industry. Most restaurants in the area are locally owned and are essentially small businesses. It is as important to eat local as it is to buy local.”
Whether you’re seeking upscale vibes or a family-friendly atmosphere, classic Italian or seasonal seafood – and everything in between – Providence Restaurant Weeks is a chance to open up your culinary world. Who knows – you may find a new favorite!
