With lipstick, high heels, and high-stakes drama, Ink Fish Books is recasting the femme fatale trope with a dash of fun. The indie bookshop in Warren launched the 2025 Desperate Deadly Widows Book Bag, a bold collaboration between bestselling thriller authors and women-owned Rhode Island businesses.
Timed with the release of Desperate Deadly Widows, the latest installment in the hit series by Vanessa Lillie, Kimberly Belle, Layne Fargo, and Cate Holahan, the limited-edition bundle offers more than a signed copy. Inside, readers will discover locally crafted surprises that add a touch of bubbly glamour to their reading experience.
Each bundle includes exclusive items from Lincoln-based Freya Soapworks and artist Vero Godbout of Atelier Vero, such as a berry champagne-scented vegan soap swirled in pink and yellow, and a zippered canvas pouch designed with lipstick, heels, and flair to match the story’s style.
"Hands down the most original thriller you'll read all year," raves international bestselling author Wendy Walker about Desperate Deadly Widows. “Laugh-out-loud funny, twisty, and full of surprises.” The novel dives straight into scandal when fictional Providence Mayor Tom Bradley is poisoned by a flute of champagne at a strip club, and a group of glamorous widows become the prime suspects. It’s a fizzy blend of mystery and sass that has already captivated fans of the original Young Rich Widows.
Readers can meet three of the authors – Vanessa Lillie, Kimberly Belle, and Cate Holahan – at Ink Fish Books on Tuesday, April 8 at 6pm for a launch event, book signing, and reader meet-and-greet.
The Desperate Deadly Widows Book Bag comes in two versions: the Lipstick Edition, which includes the new novel; and the Champagne Edition, which features both Desperate Deadly Widows and its predecessor, Young Rich Widows. Both editions are available for nationwide shipping or in-store pickup. For details and pre-orders, visit InkFishBooks.com.
