The Fish Market
Connoisseurs of seafood know that we’re truly lucky to live in Rhode Island, where we’ve got the best of the ocean’s bounty coming off of our docks and onto our plates on the same day. Serious connoisseurs buy their fish from Champlin’s Seafood Retail Market, just steps off the fishing boats in Point Judith. The Galilee institution has been providing Rhode Islanders with the incredibly fresh fish straight off those boats since the 1940s. On a given day, find live lobsters and crabs, scallops and shrimp, filleted and whole fish caught only hours ago. If you’d rather not do the cooking yourself, the market also sells an array of freshly prepared takeaway dishes like stuffed quahogs, cooked lobsters and shrimp and smoked salmon and bluefish. Or, pick out your lobster in the market and have it cooked upstairs in the restaurant for market price plus $5.
Of all of our seafood legacies, the classic Rhode Island clam bake is the most iconic, and the most difficult to prepare. Champlin’s sells clam bakes packaged and ready to cook at home, packed in stainless steel containers that are ready to be steamed on your stove or grill. Per person, a clam bake includes: a chicken lobster, one pound of steamers, one pound of mussels, assorted vegetables, and a sausage-stuffed flounder fillet. The best part is that you can share the wealth with loved ones who aren’t lucky enough to live in Rhode Island. Champlin’s ships clam bakes on ice via overnight delivery to anywhere in the country.
Champlin’s Seafood Deck is located at the entrance to Galilee Harbor, home of Rhode Island’s largest fishing fleet. Enjoy your favorite seafood dish on their spacious deck or channel view lounge, and watch local fishermen unload their daily lobster and fish catch. Fresh dayboat scallops, world famous Pt. Judith squid, pristine Block Island swordfish… it all comes across their docks, allowing them to serve the finest seafood available in
Since their recent renovations, Champlin’s now offers an impressive raw bar selection, including several varieties of local oysters, native hardshell clams, cooked jumbo shrimp and crab legs. While your meal is being prepared, visit their newly remodeled and extended cocktail bar, an area of the restaurant that offers an amazing panoramic view of a quintessential working New England fishing port. Sip on a cocktail while the Block Island Ferry sails past – try Amanda’s fantastic Bloody Mary, or a frozen specialty like a margarita or mudslide, or a draft from their brand new, eight-tap draft system. Another recent addition is the ability to have a party at Champlin’s. With their expanded kitchen, they can offer specialty meal choices along with their can’t-be-beat setting, for parties of 100 people.
Make a Splash: Champlin’s can host private events of up to 100 guests in their upstairs dining room.
Share the Bounty: The market will overnight ship seafood anywhere in the country – even live lobsters!
