Join Prof. Stanley Carpenter, published author, retired U.S. Navy Captain, and current professor at the Naval War College in Newport, RI for a lecture series on World War I. These will be the final two lectures that Prof. Carpenter gives at the Kingston Free Library.

Part III - "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" - American Aviation and The Great War in the Air

This presentation addresses the war in the air on the Western Front. The topics include the founding of a nascent U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) , the Lafayette Escadrille of American aviator volunteers in the French service, USAAC Squadrons in operation, and Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and the 94th Aero Squadron.

Part IV - "Lafayette, We Are Here" - The United States Army and Marine Corps and The Great War on Land

This presentation addresses the land war on the Western Front and the U.S. Army and Marine Corps battles and campaigns. The topics include the raising, training, and preparation for combat operations of U.S forces following the declaration of war, General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne battles and Sergeant Alvin York.
