Westport’s one-of-a-kind village store has new owners

Posted

Partners Village Store in Westport is a charming restored and expanded old house next to a cow pasture. Aside from the main store, there are two outbuildings: a seasonal art gallery and a garden shop. New owner Lydia Sweetser Gollner describes Partners as a sophisticated country store, but it is so much more.

The store itself is homey and the staff is warm and welcoming. Lydia took the helm in mid-March when the original owners retired. As she showed me around, I was in awe of how much the store had to offer. “We really are an emporium of just about any category,” Lydia explains. “We are not a cookie cutter store, and I think that’s what brings the customer back.”

Saying there’s a wide variety is an understatement. Right as you walk in there are pet-related items and gardening supplies. A few steps further there’s candy, jewelry and home decor. There’s even a kitchen area that takes up a little under half of the 4,000 square feet of the business. The kitchen is open seven days a week and everything is made fresh daily.

Also unique to the store is a book section that offers a story hour for children, a book club and book signings and discussions with authors.

Although the store is under new management, Lydia has kept the store pretty much thesame aside from adding some vibrant and colorful clothing. Partners has a warm community feel and with the inventory changing every day I can see why they have such a great clientele.
