Extraordinary Women of the East Bay: Family Fun Day

Posted by LindenPlace

On Saturday, March 23 from 11am-12pm, head to Linden Place for a family day at the Extraordinary Women of East Bay exhibit featuring activities geared toward young visitors. Listen to the stories of lighthouse keeper Ida Lewis and Lizzie Murphy, known as the “Queen of Baseball” with Mrs. Katz and Her Hats. Enter a drawing to win a copy of one of the books. Weave a basket, just like the students at Abby Munro's school. Work on a puzzle of Weetamoo, Duchess Quamino, and Izannah Walker. Color and take home your own coloring book and crayons.

This event is part of the Extraordinary Women of East Bay exhibit that recognizes and celebrates sixty women who have made a difference in their communities - Barrington, Bristol, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton, and Warren.

Sixteen local historical and preservation societies, museums, and libraries have contributed to the exhibit. Banners, with biographies and photographs, alongside artifacts and facsimiles make this a multi-media exhibit.

Linden Place Mansion, 500 Hope Street, Bristol, will host the exhibit during Women’s History Month from March 5 - March 30. Admission to family day and the exhibit is free and open to the public. This exhibition is sponsored by a generous grant from the Heritage Harbor Foundation.
