The Weekend Rundown: September 29-October 1

Posted

All Weekend: Escobar’s Highland Farm in Portsmouth has different fall fun happening every weekend, including hayrides and a pumpkin patch. The real star of the show, though, is the eight-acre corn maze. Every year, the maze has new ways to get lost and a different theme – this year’s is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It begs the question: If you can’t find your way out, can you use your wand?

September 30-October 1: The German American Cultural Society of Rhode Island is kicking off Oktoberfest in Pawtucket this weekend. Swing by for great German food and beer, plus dancing and performances in the spirit of the Old Country. Lederhosen is not required, but it’s certainly encouraged.

September 30: TEDx Providence brings a whole day full of challenging and inspiring “ideas worth spreading” to The Vets, featuring speakers like Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Raymond Two Hawks Watson, founder of the Providence Cultural Equity Initiative.

September 30: Get into the swing of fall at the Harvest Festival at Smith’s Castle in North Kingstown. The historic property will be offering children’s games, music, baked goods and other fall fun.

September 30: Don your conductor’s cap for the Yankee Steam-Up at the New England Wireless & Steam Museum in East Greenwich. The annual event is one of very few opportunities to see century-old steam engine trains up and running.

September 30-October 1: Celebrate the season at the Harvest Fair at Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown. The family-friendly festival has fun for all ages – think midway games, a monkey bridge, a mud pit and the Mabel Express barrel train – plus food and drink vendors, and artists and makers selling their wares.

October 1: Run in heels for a good cause at Pink Pump Palooza, part of Gloria Gemma’s Flames of Hope weekend. There are run/walk races all day that fundraise for the organization’s support work for breast cancer survivors, and hundreds of men and women running down Francis Street in pink heels will definitely be a sight to see.

October 1: Bring your appetite to the Bristol Burger Bash at Linden Place in Bristol. The afternoon of burgers, beers and bluegrass brings together restaurants from all over the East Bay for a delicious day of indulgence.
