The Weekend Rundown: November 3-8

Posted

November 2: Feel the beat at PeaceLove Rocks, featuring world champion beatboxer Butterscotch. The fundraiser for PeaceLove Studios and its therapeutic art services, at The Met in Pawtucket, will have cocktails and small bites in addition to musical performances.

November 3-5: Practice Defiance! when you see Sylvia Ann Soares star in her one-woman show about Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, the first African American woman to graduate RISD, at AS220. The show features real art by Prophet, and excerpts of her writing.

November 3-5: Open your mind to New and Dangerous Ideas at The Wilbury Theatre. The show, written and directed by Providence poet and playwright Christopher Johnson and receiving its world premiere, is a work of documentary theatre rooted in interviews about race in America.

November 3-5: Travel back in time with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar at The Granite Theatre in Westerly, which takes age-old stories and interprets them through a different and surprising perspective.

November 4:
Explore the wilderness at the AILT 5k Race for Open Space at the Sakonnet River Greenway in Middletown. The benefit for the Aquidneck Island Land Trust takes runners and walkers (and dogs!) through a scenic loop, with prizes and refreshments at the end.

November 4: Don your finest black tie for Powered by Preservation, a 60th-anniversary gala for Providence Preservation Society. The fundraiser is at the South Street Station, once on PPS’s most endangered properties list, with music by Danielle Ponder and the Tomorrow People.

November 4: Never see the same show twice at Bravo! An Improvised Musical at Wakefield’s Contemporary Theater Company. Everything during each performance is made up as it goes, and the performers don’t know anything about that night’s performance before it starts.

November 4: Witness the spectacle that is the Pumpkin Launch at The Farmer’s Daughter in South Kingstown. All the leftover pumpkins from the fall harvest get loaded into their pumpkin trebuchet to get launched across the fields.

November 4–5: Flap your wings over to Bristol’s Audubon Environmental Education Center for their Audubon Bird and Wildlife Carving Exposition, when acclaimed artists will display their lifelike artistic interpretations of local wildlife. There will also be carving demos and an art sale.

November 5: Bring the little ones to Wonderland at the Alice in Wonderland Doll & Me Tea Party at Cutie Curls in Tiverton Four Corners, where guests can doll up themselves and their dolls in true fairy-tale style, plus have tea and treats.

November 5: Have some nautical fun at the Fall Family Open House at Bristol’s Herreshoff Marine Museum. The museum is offering free admission that day, plus arts and crafts, seasonal fun and games, food trucks and a fire truck visit by the Bristol Fire Department.

November 8: Brit Floyd returns to The Vets in Providence to recreate the spaced out sounds of Pink Floyd. With a stage show that faithfully recreates the spectacle that Floyd was known for, plus a 40th anniversarry tribute to the band's Animals album, this is a show classic rock fans won't want to miss.
