July 13-16: Newport celebrates Japanese culture when the 34th annual Black Ships Festival returns. The celebration of Japanese art and culture is held to commemorate the relationship between Newport and its sister city of Shimoda, Japan, and includes a gala, a Japanese tea ceremony and taiko drumming.
July 14: Movies in the Park in Roger Williams Park offers a kid-friendly alfresco flick every other Friday, beginning this weekend with the animated animals-doing-karaoke movie Sing.
July 14–15: The Contemporary Theater Company in South Kingstown brings a whole different mob scene to life with One Man, Two Guvnors. In the hilarious farce, a man finds himself with two bosses – and both of them just happen to be the heads of rival mob gangs.

July 14 & 16: Trinity Rep takes theatre outside for Shakespeare en el Verano. This year’s performance is a bilingual adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, traveling all over the greater PVD area for the month, including performances this weekend at the South Providence Library and the Steel Yard
July 16: The Providence Flea brings its quirky blend of fun, food and shopping to South Water Street every Sunday afternoon. Vintage and artisanal vendors set up booths, selling everything from terrariums to handmade jewelry, and there are live music and food trucks.
July 15: It’s the 30th year of the Tiverton Four Corners Arts and Artisan Festival, in a corner of Rhode Island that’s nearly 400 years old. The festival is a celebration of local art, with a beer garden and live entertainment.
July 15-16: The South Coast Artists Open Studio Tour is a self-guided tour of the surprisingly huge number of professional artists’ studios in and around Dartmouth, Westport, Little Compton and Tiverton. Meet the artists, see original works being made and appreciate the local arts scene in a whole different way.
July 16: The Barrington Summer Concert Series brings great local music to Barrington Town Beach on Sundays this summer starting this Sunday with Detroit Breakdown.
