Same Wharf, New Tavern

Warren mainstay gets a makeover

Posted

The Wharf Tavern has been a Warren fixture since 1955, serving seafood in a fine dining atmosphere and an unbeatable view of the Narragansett Bay. It’s changed ownership several times over the years, but one thing remains the same: it’s the kind of local establishment that lets boaters dock, dust off their Sperrys, and grab a cocktail and fresh catch of the day. The new co-owners Melissa Ferris and Peter Cabral bought the Tavern in May 2018. In January of this year, they felt the establishment needed a bit of sprucing up and closed the restaurant for renovations. The Wharf Tavern recently reopened on May 14, unveiling a whole new decor.

Melissa describes the renovations as more youthful and contemporary. She rearranged the bar so that it now faces water, brought in two new event spaces, and now hosts several events during the weekends. The atmosphere feels bright and nautical with wooden accents, a white ceiling, and navy blue seats. Melissa says that she and Peter radically changed the menu to match the modern renovations. A fusion of seafood, American cuisine, and elements of Spanish- and Asian-inspired foods such as paella and Asian fish tacos (Melissa says that they are the two most popular dishes, in addition to the stuffed lobster and fish n’ chips) are now available.

One of her favorite parts of owning the restaurant is seeing the looks on customers’ faces when they walk in the door. She loves hearing stories from families who’ve been eating at the restaurant for 30 years, many of whom mention that the Tavern needed a few updates. Whether you’re a longtime customer or a potential newcomer, the Wharf Tavern offers stunning bay-side views, refreshing drinks, and hearty, inspired dishes for the whole family. 215 Water St, Warren.
