Providence Singers present The Heart of the Singer

Posted by ProvidenceSingers

Music matters: It's a basic human need, an important way to not only express emotions, but also to connect with them. We find so many ways to isolate ourselves and disconnect from the Earth, each other, and our true selves.

The Wound in the Water is a 2016 composition for chorus, piano, and string orchestra by the Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen, setting verse by the Welsh poet Euan Tait. This modern masterpiece traces the journey from a sense of isolation to a healing "shared song" - what we're doing, literally and metaphorically, whenever we sing.

Also on the program: Inter Natos Mulierum, a bright, intriguing offertory for the Feast Day of John the Baptist (June 24), written by a teenaged Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
