Looking to learn more about the seafood you eat? The second event of the Eating with the Ecosystem Dinner Series takes place at the Hourglass Brasserie on October 9. Working with chefs to plan and source seasonal, local and ecosystem-based seafood meals, this dinner series strives to raise awareness of the ecological relationships between species in the ocean. The evening’s meal features lobster, shellfish and seaweed dishes, and educational talks by guest speakers centered on showcasing the Gulf of Maine. Go online to see the evening’s menu options or to purchase tickets. If none are available (these tend to sell out very quickly), fret not – there’s another dinner scheduled for November 5 at Tallulah on Thames in Newport.

A Truckin’ Feast
If you’ve been craving an East Coast smorgasbord, leave October 20 open for the Newport Food Truck Festival. With over 20 food trucks and sampling tents, this is one festival where going belt-less or even donning elastic waist pants may be necessary. Taste tickets can be purchased online and used as currency at the festival. $13-25. 11am-4pm. Newport Yachting Center, 4 Commercial Wharf, Newport

Food-based Business
Hope & Main, a non-profit organization that helps food-based entrepreneurs, welcomes the public to a free Open House on October 11 to discuss their upcoming project, a kitchen incubator in Warren. Wondering why this would be beneficial? Attend the meeting. Local food and spirits will be served. You can then stop by the Town Hall on October 15 at 7pm to vote yea or nay on the project. 7-9pm. Main Street School, 691 Main Street, Warren
