Mommy and Me Saves You Money But Doesn't Skimp on Style

This Aquidneck Island consignment shop will have your little ones looking good for less

Nestled in Old Almy Village in Portsmouth is Mommy & Me of Newport – an infant and child consignment shop run by Elizabeth Haverington Silva. This truck driver turned mom says she never meant to be a small business owner, but she’s so glad she is.

Elizabeth opened Mommy & Me in Middletown in 2009 when her favorite consignment shop closed in 2008. “I fell in love with consignment in general,” says Elizabeth. “You’re spending a fraction of what you would spend going somewhere else.” This makes sense to me – why spend a ridiculous amount of money on children’s clothes that they’ll grow out of in a few months? Every- thing in her store is gently used except for Melissa & Doug products and the occassional clothing and toy product.

Her cozy new location in Portsmouth is open six days a week with clothes in sizes from infant to 16 youth. There are also maternity and nursing clothes for moms. The clothes are adorable – I found a ridiculously cute pair of Hartstrings pants in a dog pattern that made me wish I knew a little kid to buy them for. She also makes Pinterest-inspired “onesie cupcakes” and “diaper cakes” for baby shower gifts. The diaper cakes are made to look like a cake but are made with – you guessed it – different sizes of diapers. These can also be made to order too.

Whether you’re in the market for clothes, toys, or strollers, Mommy & Me is a warm and welcoming place that will make you, your kids and your wallet happy.
