A local author offers readers a glimpse into her literary world

There are few things better than escaping into the world of good books. This Memorial Day weekend, Rhode Island based author Marie Force is offering readers the chance to visit Newport to experience first hand the setting of her captivating stories. The event, which will take place May 23-26, was created in response to readers who expressed interest in visiting the place Marie writes about in her books.

“I really wanted to give my readers a first-hand experience with the places I write about in my books, Newport and Block Island in particular,” Marie says. “The Reader Weekend came from years of hearing the readers say they’d sure love to come to Rhode Island. We’re hoping to make it a somewhat regular event.”

The weekend will feature tours of the Newport setting for her romance novels: Treading Water, Georgia on My Mind, The Fall and Love at First Flight. Marie also has a series of novels called The McCarthy's of Gansett, which is set among the beach bluffs and lighthouses of southern Rhode Island and Block Island. The weekend will also feature a day on Block Island to experience the places that inspire her stories. Marie, who currently lives in Portsmouth, RI, has had six New York Times best sellers, sold over two million copies and plans to release several more books in 2014.
