June 20-July 3: If, for some reason, you need something to get stoked about for Bristol’s Fourth of July Celebration, the Concert Series leading up to the celebration could help you out. Starting June 20 and continuing every night up to July 3, two musical acts will perform each night. The Adam Ezra Group, which won the New England Music Awards’ Band of the Year in 2013, will help kick off the tunes on June 20, and Songs In the Attic, a Billy Joel tribute band, will close out the series July 3. What’s not to love? Independence Park, Thames Street, Bristol. 401-523-6914, www.july4thbristolri.com

June 28: Looking to go on a long run before all those 4th of July barbecues? Then join the Independence Rhode Race Half Marathon at Independence Park. You’ll be passing through Bristol’s historic downtown and along the shorelines of Colt State Park. $70. 6:30am. Independence Park, Thames Street, Bristol. www.july4thbristolri.com

June 28: Come watch local volunteer firemen battle it out on Firemen’s Field Day at Guiteras Elementary School. They’ll be spraying each other down in an epic fire hose duel to the death. Just kidding, but it will be a lot of fun. 35 Washington Street, Bristol. www.july4thbristolri.com

June 29-July 4: What is the Fourth of July without a carnival? Answer: Not a true Fourth of July celebration. Rockwell Amusements, which has run carnivals for more than 40 years, will return to Bristol this year. Starting June 29 and continuing through the holiday, you’ll be able to find your carnival fix, whether it’s via thrilling rides or funnel cake. 401-934-1560, www.rockwellamusements.com

July 3: Seven bands representing seven states will compete in the 26th Fourth of July Drum and Bugle Corps Competition Summer Music Preview the night before America’s birthday. Check out the nation’s best in what has become a can’t-miss event. 6pm. 199 Chestnut Street, Bristol. 401-316-1353, www.july4thbristolri.com

July 3: One of the biggest attractions of Bristol’s Independence Day Celebration is the fireworks show on the night of the third. There are not many contenders to Bristol’s fireworks (maybe Disney’s Epcot, but who can compete with that?). You can see the show from miles away, but we suggest you take a few lawn chairs out and set up on the grass at Independence Park. Get there early to secure a spot. 9:30pm. Bristol Harbor, Independence Park, Thames Street, Bristol. www.july4thbristolri.com

July 3: The Herreshoff Marine Museum will be throwing its Annual 3rd of July Celebration to start the weekend. Preppy Pig BBQ will be cooking up delicious food, along with music by rockin’ DJ Luke Renchan. Cap it all with waterfront views of the fireworks show and s’mores on the beach. $12-50. 6:30-11pm. 1 Burnside Street, Bristol. 401-253-5000, www.herreshoff.org

July 4: Linden Place is the place to view the parade. It will host its annual Fourth of July picnic during the parade, and will offer prime viewing, including bleacher-style seating and tables and chairs under the Linden trees that will maximize your viewing pleasure. Attendees will be served breakfast and lunch and have the option of touring the mansion. $55-80. 401-253-0390. 500 Hope Street, Bristol, www.lindenplace.org

July 11-12: Looking to whip out those tennis shoes and hit the courts? The John Partington Tennis Tournament will be held at Roger Williams University as part of the Bristol 4th of July Celebration. Singles, doubles and mixed doubles will be facing off. Entry fees are due by July 8. $25-30. 1 Old Ferry Road, Bristol. www.july4thbristolri.com/tennis.tournament
