Catch Phantom of the Opera at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday before it leaves Rhode Island. This new production of the timeless story is one of the largest in its US tour.

Ocean State Theatre is showing Miracle on 34th Street, a popular holiday favorite this weekend. Enjoy the heart-warming musical with the whole family and ring in the holidays with the story of a man who claims to be the real Santa Claus.

Santa and Mrs. Claus, a miniature train, a hayride, a winter stroll, an 18-foot talking snowman, hot chocolate, food, face painting, live entertainment and more can all be found at Pawtucket Winter Wonderland in Slater Memorial Park.

Hope Artiste Village is hosting its Holiday Open Studios on Saturday and Sunday. Get some holiday shopping done with special sales offered and enjoy hot cider, snacks and live music.

Friday

Friday is the last Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff. Performed at the iconic staircase, salons and ballroom of Rosecliff, the one of a kind performance will have you moving from room to room following the action.

Stroll through Blithewold’s illuminated gardens and greenhouse and enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, roasted marshmallows and a giant, warming bonfire. Sparkle! The outdoor family event at the Bristol mansion has all the classic holiday fun we all look forward to each year.

Saturday

SnowRiders is returning to Providence for more live skiing, snowboarding and music than ever before. The epic party offers lift ticket giveaways and thousands of dollars in other prizes. Visit the SnowRiders’ Facebook to not only get tickets to the event but also enter the competition. Rad!

Join Mayor Angel Taveras and the city of Providence for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Bank of America City Center. Enjoy the city’s kickoff to the holiday festivities and watch a figure skating demonstration as well as Santa on the ice after the tree ceremony. Special guests include 2013 World Challenge Cup Competitors, a synchronized skating team and more.

The 43rd Annual Bowen’s Wharf Christmas Tree Lighting is more than it sounds just decorating. With an appearance from Frosty the Snowman, Christmas Carol sing-a-longs and the arrival of Santa along with the tree lighting, the Bowen’s Wharf event is a fun-filled holiday destination for Newport.

The Rhode Island Film Collaborative presents its fundraising event: The Roaring 20’s Black & White Gala at The Rhode Island Convention Center. Choose between the Gala ticket or the Gatsby ticket, each one offering different options for entertainment throughout the night. Party on with a live DJ, band, lots of food and drinks and much more.

With the holidays approaching it is time for Santa meet and greets. This year, skip the mal and head over to the Providence River for boat rides with Santa Claus. It’s a fun, original way for kids to share their holiday wishes with the man in the red suit.

Be dazzled at Christmas at the Breakers in Newport with glittering gold, sparkling décor, live holiday music and tours. Stroll the beautiful mansion and sip on refreshments as you take in the beauty of the elaborate yuletide finery.

Visit Santa, view the poinsettia display, and enjoy the wreath sale at Holiday in Roger Williams Park Botanical Center. Donate a canned good for the Rhode Island Food Bank and receive free admission in return.

Sunday

Warwick's Aldrich Mansion hosts its Christmas Lighting Holiday Event this Sunday that also includes a tour of the mansion, hot cocoa and chilled cider to enjoy during the countdown and tree lighting. The event is free and family friendly!

Get in the holiday spirit at the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Deck the Hall event. With outdoor caroling and an outdoor lighting ceremony showcasing the holiday décor around the historic building and tennis court, this is one very merry way to welcome the Christmas season.

For $10 stuff your face at RI Food Fights' Spectacular Cookie Smackdown held at Fete in Providence. The best bakers in the state as they go head to head competing to create the best cookie in Rhode Island. Try each of the creations accompanied by a tall glass of milk.
