Now that the oppressive, unbearable heat has given way to just regular unbearable heat, we can all go back to life as normal just in time for the weekend.

ALL WEEKEND

The moment a lot of us have been waiting for is finally here: The  Newport Folk Festival... But, it’s sold out. Bummer, we know. If you're fortunate enough to have a boat or kayak, you can still listen in from just off the shore at Fort Adams. No boat? No problem. Newport will be buzzing with so many people and so much action, it'll be worth the trip anyway.

The 42nd Annual Blessing of the Fleet in Narragansett features a colorful parade of commercial and recreational watercraft. Each parading vessel is blessed by the distinguished clergymen, and judged for prizes by state and local officials. The Friday/Saturday festivities also include the Blessing Road Race, the Pier Plunge and the mouthwatering Blessing Seafood Festival.

The Cultural Survival Bazaar is this Saturday-Sunday in Tiverton, providing hundreds of Indigenous artists, cooperatives and their representatives from around the world the chance to sell their traditional and contemporary craftwork. The Bazaar also offers a wide array of cultural performances and presentations.

This Saturday/Sunday Providence's Dusk bar presents Something Bloody Metal Fest. Local bands of the extreme metal variety will be rocking out, so grab a drink and some delicious food from local vendors, and prepare to bang your head.

THURSDAY

Kick off your weekend early this Thursday at the Steel Yard in Providence for their first annual Fire Camp Fundraiser. This industrial arts nonprofit will demonstrate live iron pouring and you will also have the opportunity to create your very own cast iron tiles. Make it a family event and bring the kids: s'mores and frozen treats sold by local vendors will be available.

FRIDAY

Pearl Lounge & Restaurant has one of the most impressive outdoor patio setups around, perfect for a summer night concert from local favorites Boo City and The Ravers.

SATURDAY

The Fiesta Verde Summer Party at the Spencer Family's grand Chastellux property has become one of the most-anticipated summer bashes on Aquidneck Island. A cocktail reception is followed by dinner, music, dancing, a raffle and a  silent auction of artwork, jewelry, gifts and getaway packages. Proceeds benefit the Aquidneck Land Trust.

The Sea Star Marketplace at Frosty Drew Nature Center and Observatory in Ninigret Park features over 100 artisans selling fine art and craft such as blown glass, pottery, paintings, woodwork and much more. Go right ahead and cancel the babysitter because there is a Children's Corner available for the kids, as well as food vendors to keep everyone fed and happy.

SUNDAY

The Newport Summer Comedy Series Presents Bill Maher, best known for his unflinching honesty and occasional bit of controversy. This Sunday is your chance to see this 23-time Emmy-nominee live at the Newport Yachting Center.

Mayor Angel Taveras invites you to the second Providence Cyclovía, a car-free event that opens Providence streets to the people to walk, skate, run, bicycle, exercise and socialize. It's perfect for all ages to get out there and get some exercise without worrying about vehicles and traffic. Bring your helmets and your wheels and enjoy the fun.
